Hello! We are the University of Colorado at Boulder SHPE/MAES chapter, a joint society of two national organizations. SHPE (http://www.shpe.org/) is the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers and MAES (http://mymaes.org/) represents Mexican American Engineers and Scientist. We are a community composed of a diverse group of students from every engineering discipline. Our chapter is continuing to grow this year and we are constantly seeking to become more involved in CU’s College of Engineering and more active in the broader Boulder community. We hold weekly member meetings where we discuss current events in engineering and hispanic/latino education. In addition we hold professionalism workshops to better prepare our members for their careers after graduation, and encourage attendance at the national conferences hosted by SHPE and MAES. Although we spend time working with our own members, we also recognize our place in the college and the importance of collaboration. This is why we partner with other student organizations including NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers), SWE (Society of Woman Engineers), and the BOLD Center (Broadening Opportunity Through Leadership and Diversity). Mission: SHPE/MAES at CU Boulder chapter seeks to develop a diverse community of mutually supportive students that excel as STEM scholars, contributing community members, and well rounded professionals. Vision: SHPE/MAES at CU Boulder provides a rich academic and professional environment for the development of students into competitive confident and versatile individuals in the STEM work force. Goals: Recruiting, Retention, Outreach, Chapter Development, Succession Planning
