ESSIE Planeteer Mentoring Program
University of Florida
93 Members
Mission:
Current Environmental Engineering Science's (EES) students expressed mentoring needs, and EES faculty and staff expressed enthusiastic support; therefore, Naim Conrad Vilabrera and Colleen Baublitz with member recruitment assistance from AWMA, the Wetlands Club, SEE, AWRA and EWRI propose a departmental mentoring program to launch in Fall 2015- The ESSIE Planeteer Mentoring Program. We hope that the program serves as a basis for the development of mentoring programs in other engineering departments and mentoring collaboration inter-departmentally.
Objectives:
Engage students around the common goal of human health and environmental protection
Encourage involvement in a variety of subjects for both academic and professional career tracks
Ease educational and communicative leadership experience for mentors
Expand the University of Florida community through the inclusion of underrepresented groups
Promote retention in human health and environmental fields
Provide insight to facilitate success
