CARE is a student organization that several Michigan Engineering students started just last year. We noticed that there wasn't a scholarship fund set up for students in the College of Engineering (CoE) who experience financial emergencies -- such as a parent losing their job or a sibling with an expensive medical condition. The CoE recognizes that each year there are Engineering students who find themselves in need of $5,000 to $10,000 in order to be able to continue with their studies. Since no one else had started a scholarship for these students, we said, "Why not us?" and spent last year laying the groundwork for what we hope will become the largest scholarship endowment in the CoE. We call the scholarship CARE: Cost Assistance for Resilient Engineers. The scholarship is open to any engineering student to apply and our goal is to give all Michigan Engineering students the opportunity to rise above a devastating financial crisis, making sure they can pursue their dreams of getting an engineering education. So far, we have raised just over $4,200 and once we have raised $12,500, the College of Engineering will match that amount to bring us up to the $25,000 minimum required to endow the fund. All donations are processed through the University and are tax deductible. The fund will be endowed if sufficient dollars are raised and surplus distributions will be invested to provide further scholarship support. Please reach out to us if you are interested in supporting this initiative and we are more than happy to answer any questions or discuss our scholarship fund in more details.
